Wer sind die Samaritaner in der Bibel? Wie sammelten sie sich im antiken Palästina um ihren Tempel auf dem Berg Garizim? Wie wirkte es sich auf diese Gruppe aus, dass sie das babylonische Exil nicht kannten? Wie kam es zu ihrem schlechten Ruf? Wie kommt es, dass sie vom Alten Testament bis in die neutestamentlichen Evangelien wegen ihres herabgewürdigten Judentums als Gegenbeispiel herhalten müssen. Das Gegenteil wird allerdings indirekt durch das Gleichnis Jesu vom „Barmherzigen Samariter“ bewiesen, der das gängige Bild Lügen straft? Und warum wurden sie im christlichen Römischen Reich immer unbedeutender?
Dieses Werk ist die größte Untersuchung, die jemals über die Herkunft der Samaritaner durchgeführt wurde. Es wird ihre Genealogie aufzeigt und ihre Geschichte enthüllt. Durch die kritische Prüfung der Schriften von Flavius Josephus, die Gegenüberstellung von jüdischen Traditionen und Geschichte sowie der vergleichenden Untersuchung archäologischer Quellen gelingt es dem Bibelwissenschaftler Étienne Nodet, das Geheimnis der Samaritaner zu lüften und ihre israelitische Identität (d.h. als Teil des Volkes Israel) wiederherzustellen.Ein herausragendes Werk!
