Saba Mahmood – Islam und der Aufbruch der Frauen in anthropologischer Sicht

Die bekannte Anthropologin Saba Mahmood (geb. 1962 in Lahore, gest. 10.03.2018 in USA), Professorin an der Universität von Berkeley (Kalifornien) untersuchte in Theorie und Praxis menschliche Verhaltensweisen in geschichtlich-kulturellen und ethnischen Zusammenhängen von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart. Geprägt von ihrer kulturellen Heimat Pakistan und bezog sie sich auch auf die säkularen Lebensweisen des Westens. Damit eröffnete sie neue Einsichten auf islamische und islamistische Tendenzen der Moderne. Besonders spannend wurde dies bei der Untersuchung über den Aktionismus von Frauen in der fundamentalistisch geprägten Moschee-Bewegung in Kairo.
